Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

General Eye Care

  1. Lubrication is essential for your eyes.  Begin using Bion tears or Genteal gel the morning after surgery.  During the day, apply two (2) drops in each eye every 2-4 hours (or more often) while awake.  If your eyes are tearing, this means they are dry or irritated.  Do Not blot the corner of your eyes with a tissue.  This creates further irritation and can interfere with healing.  If this occurs, use your drops more frequently.
  2. At bedtime, squeeze Lacrilube ointment directly on your eyeball (while looking up) at bedtime to ensure that your eyes are well lubricated while you sleep.  Avoid manipulating your eyes while doing this.  Patients often experience some blurring of vision for one to two weeks after surgery and occasionally longer.  This is generally due to swelling and/or ointments and should clear spontaneously.
  3. You may take a shower or bath the day after surgery.  The face may be gently cleansed with your fingertips.  Do not be afraid to get the suture lines wet.
  4. Do Not use Visine or Murine because these products may interfere with healing.
  5. Do Not apply make-up over any external incisions for several days after the sutures are removed.  Please ask us when you may resume the use of eye makeup.
